There's just nothing like working with wood, growing up on a farm out by the foothills of the Taurarua ranges in the mighty Manawatu was where a passion of all things wood started. Whether it was building dams in the creek or huts in the trees. Later this grew -- trimming trees for motorcycle tracks in the pine forests. Cutting up the thinnings for firewood to keep the house warm and our neighbours too. I completed my building apprenticeship in Palmerston North and spent a few years as a builder before moving to the Taranaki and calling Hawera home. I continued with firewood sales. A tree that was presented to me and a friend helped with my decision to purchase an Alaskan Mill. The beautiful slabs that followed fuelled my passion to continue to make things with wood indoor and outdoor furniture. This led me to develop the business and Backyard Timber Services Ltd was born.
